Physics Prototyping Team

As a small prototyping team, we were tasked with building ​various physics-based game prototypes to explore physics as a concept and mechanic in games, and develop a 'genre mastery' of physics so we could enact a studio vision to support future projects from the Rovio Stockholm studio.

Project Responsibilities:

  • Run brainstorms with the whole team to gather ideas, set our scope, and define the sandbox & goals for the next prototype.

  • Build the core gameplay of the prototypes, including the '3Cs' and designing gameplay interactions between players and physics interactions.

  • Create a prototyping methodology and strategy that could be used to make prototyping as fast and effective at getting learnings as possible.

  • Share our learnings with the studio to ensure entire team shares our knowledge and goals on how we approach prototyping.

  • Deconstruct internal and external games to understand and map out gameplay interactions and bring the learning to our projects.

  • Pitch our projects to studio leadership to gather feedback, iterate, and get learnings both for that prototype and future ones.

In a few months, we've created a few different prototypes, each testing different concepts and assumptions, and increased our understanding of how to effectively prototype, and what elements we felt were important to ensuring a successful and fun game.
